About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Packaging Engineer or Industrial Designer to join our team and drive the development of sustainable packaging solutions for our products. In this role, you will play a critical part in minimizing our environmental impact while ensuring the functionality, safety, and appeal of our packaging. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, marketing, and supply chain, to create and implement cutting-edge sustainable packaging strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Design and Development: Conceptualize, design, and prototype innovative and sustainable packaging solutions that meet product requirements, consumer needs, and brand guidelines.
- Material Selection: Research, evaluate, and select environmentally friendly packaging materials, considering factors such as recyclability, compostability, biodegradability, and life cycle assessment.
- Sustainability Analysis: Conduct life cycle assessments (LCA) to measure and minimize the environmental impact of packaging designs, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainable packaging solutions into product development processes, ensuring alignment with marketing objectives and supply chain capabilities.
- Testing and Validation: Develop and execute testing protocols to ensure the performance, durability, and safety of sustainable packaging designs, meeting industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in sustainable packaging technologies, materials, and regulations, proactively identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
- Communication: Effectively communicate sustainable packaging concepts, benefits, and challenges to internal stakeholders and external partners, promoting awareness and driving adoption.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field with a focus on sustainability.
- Proven experience in designing and developing packaging solutions, with a strong emphasis on sustainability principles.
- Knowledge of sustainable packaging materials, technologies, and best practices.
- Familiarity with life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies and tools.
- Proficiency in CAD software and design tools.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
- Passion for sustainability and a commitment to environmental responsibility.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with specific sustainable packaging certifications or standards (e.g., FSC, Cradle to Cradle).
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation related to packaging and sustainability.
- Experience in consumer goods or [relevant industry] packaging design.
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $55-65 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location
